Xi'an, China | November 8, 2024- LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "LONGi"), a leading player in the renewable energy sector, is proud to announce its participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The theme of this year’s COP29 is “In Solidarity for a Green World” and will focus on funding commitments, stronger emission reduction targets, advancing adaptation strategies, and improving carbon markets, while also addressing the challenges posed by geopolitics. LONGi is poised to take a leading role in addressing two of the most pressing challenges of our time: Energy Equity and Biodiversity Conservation.
Azerbaijan is known for its abundant oil and natural gas resources and is one of the world's important energy producers. The country plans to increase its renewable energy generation capacity to 30% by 2030 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2050. With the conference set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22, 2024, LONGi believes that it’s an unparalleled opportunity to drive meaningful change and set the stage for a more sustainable future.

Energy Equity: A Cornerstone of Sustainable Development
At the heart of LONGi's mission is the belief that energy is a fundamental right, and that clean, affordable energy should be accessible to all. LONGi is committed to advocating for policies and initiatives that promote energy justice on a global scale. LONGi’s presence at COP29 will be marked by active participation in discussions aimed at translating global energy commitments into tangible actions. The company will champion the International Energy Agency's (IEA) vision for actionable measures to achieve energy equity, particularly in emerging and developing economies.
Last year at COP28, LONGi announced a new three-year partnership with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to deliver impact across climate action, energy equity, and green transformation. The issue of energy inequality directly affects economic development and the quality of people’s lives. Fortunately, technological innovation has resulted in photovoltaic solutions becoming one of the most economical sources of electricity in many parts of the world. This partnership is expected to benefit numerous countries where UNHCR implements its climate action work.
Under the concept of "Illuminating Africa", LONGi in partnership with leading container shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk, launched the Malawi Power Station Donation Project in Africa on September 2, 2023, donating 301kW modules to enhance local infrastructure, education, and living standards by powering hospitals, clinics, schools, and villages across 12 destinations, predominantly using off-grid applications.
Biodiversity Conservation: Protecting Our Planet's Life Support System
Biodiversity loss is an existential threat to our planet, and LONGi is dedicated to joining forces with all related parties and stakeholders to protect and restore our ecosystems. At COP29, LONGi will join forces with Deeprock Group and other companies to launch a biodiversity conservation initiative at UN Press Conference, to support the integration of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) into climate adaptation strategies, which not only enhance resilience but also contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
In December 2023, LONGi announced its “Zero-Carbon Life Plan for Pandas” aimed at preserving biodiversity in China’s Qinling Mountains. As a part of the agreement, LONGi donated solar power plant with its Hi-MO X6 module product for the nature reserve’s facilities to provide clean energy for scientists and researchers in support of their important conservation efforts. The “Panda Power Plant” will harness the sun's energy to contribute to sustainable energy generation for the Foping National Nature Reserve.
LONGi's Commitment to COP29 within “Green Power+ Green Hydrogen”
LONGi's participation in COP29 will involve engaging in high-level dialogues, workshops, and events that promote Energy Equity and Biodiversity Conservation within “Green Power+ Green Hydrogen”. The company will also contribute to discussions on how nature-based solutions can contribute to achieving the Paris Agreement's temperature goals and ensure that climate finance is directed to where it is most needed, particularly in developing nations.
Azerbaijan’s economic potential of solar energy is 23 GW. The region's favourable climate, boasting 2,400-3,200 hours of sunshine annually, gives Azerbaijan strong potential as a solar energy producer. In October, the 230 MW Garadagh Solar PV Plant was inaugurated.
As the appraisal partner of project owner Masdar, LONGi exclusively supplied all solar modules. The project generates half a billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to meet the needs of more than 110,000 homes, and will reduce emissions by 200,000 tonnes a year. The solar power plant has also created new jobs for the local community.
“LONGi looks forward to collaborating with global stakeholders at COP29 to drive action on energy equity and biodiversity conservation. Together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable world for current and future generations.” Said Zhang Haimeng, Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer of LONGi.
