Background: This is the case of a photovoltaic pergola in the province of Huelva, which required renovation. The Provincial Council of Huelva, through the Department of Environment, Rural Development, and Energy, commissioned the company Freelight Energías Renovables to repair and upgrade this installation, which, among other uses, powered a charger for electric vehicles. Although the installation was still operational, its output was quite limited due to the age and condition of the panels, and especially because it had suffered the effects of a severe storm. The revamping proposed by Freelight Energías Renovables involved replacing both the structure and the modules. They opted to replace the 35 old panels with 20 units of the high-efficiency LONGi Hi-MO X6 module of 580W.
The result has been a qualitative upgrade, not only in the output of the installation but also in a notable aesthetic improvement due to the perfect integration of the modules and the structure. This system is expected to generate more than 16 MWh of green energy per year, thus avoiding the emission of thousands of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. Additionally, it reinforces the idea that public administrations should lead by example, promoting such initiatives to raise awareness among the population about the importance of renewable energies.
