- European green energy giant and China’s biggest solar manufacturer sign deal to initiate partnership
- Agreement explores options for making LONGi a potential preferred solar panel supplier to boost solar energy worldwide
- Comes as Octopus visits China to strengthen existing business partnerships and exchange knowledge in green tech solutions
Shanghai, China, 30th August — Octopus Energy’s generation arm and the largest global solar module manufacturer, LONGi, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to kickstart an upcoming partnership.
As part of this deal, the two companies have agreed to lay the groundwork to add LONGi to Octopus’s list of preferred suppliers. The agreement was signed during a visit of Octopus Energy Generation’s leadership team to LONGi’s headquarters in Shanghai.
The two green energy giants will negotiate a solar panel supply agreement for Octopus to procure solar panels at speed and at scale for solar farm projects in the coming years, made possible due to LONGi’s market-leading position.
LONGi is the biggest supplier worldwide of solar wafers and modules and is award-winning in its PV module efficiency and innovation. It has been a world leader in pushing the boundaries in creating high-quality solar technology, having developed efficient, reliable, and cost-effective solutions for solar projects.
Octopus Energy Generation - one of Europe’s largest specialist renewables investors managing $9 billion of projects - has over 150 solar farm investments in six countries and is developing new projects globally. This latest agreement will help Octopus continue to scale at an unprecedented pace.
Zoisa North-Bond, CEO of Octopus Energy Generation, commented: “China’s rapid progress in accelerating the roll-out of green energy is nothing short of remarkable. Partnering with a world-leading company like LONGi will help turbocharge solar projects around the world and ensure they are affordable due to LONGi’s scale and size. We look forward to working together to create a cheaper, greener, and more secure energy system for everyone.”
Dennis She, Vice President of LONGi, stated: “Octopus holds a substantial influence on the UK and global energy market, by harnessing the strengths of both parties in technological innovation and strategic resources, we are poised to deliver transformative projects worldwide. This agreement is a pivotal move towards achieving our shared vision of a sustainable energy future, setting new standards for the industry and accelerating the world’s transition to clean, renewable energy.”
